2 Days in Bergen, Norway: A Local’s Itinerary

Planning to spend 2 days in Bergen, Norway? Two days gives you time to see the famous sights and explore some quieter local places without rushing.

On the first day, I’d visit Fløyen, Bryggen and the city center. On the second day, I’d explore neighborhoods, cafés and streets that many visitors miss.

Here’s the two-day Bergen itinerary I’d recommend to a friend.

Start with Bergen’s classic sights, then discover a more local side of the city on day two.

Day 1 – Classic Bergen

9:00 AM – Start at Fløyen

Start your morning with one of Bergen’s best views. Take the Fløibanen up to Mount Fløyen, enjoy the view over the city and harbor, and if the weather is nice, spend a little time walking around before heading back down.

11:00 AM – Walk Through Bryggen

From Fløibanen, walk toward Bryggen. Don’t only photograph the famous colorful wooden buildings from the front. Walk through the narrow passages between them too. This is where Bryggen becomes much more interesting.

12:30 PM – Lunch Around the Harbor

Head toward the Fish Market and Vågen for lunch. The Fish Market is worth seeing, but you don’t necessarily have to eat there. There are plenty of places around the harbor depending on what you feel like eating.

2:00 PM – Explore Bergen City Center

After lunch, wander through the center around Torgallmenningen and the surrounding streets. This is a good time for shopping, coffee, or simply walking without a strict plan.

4:00 PM – Nordnes

Walk toward Nordnes for a quieter side of Bergen. The neighborhood has beautiful old wooden houses and small streets, and you can continue all the way to Nordnesparken for views over the water.

Evening – Dinner & Drinks

Head back toward the city center for dinner. Afterward, you can stay around Vågen, Bryggen or the center for a drink and enjoy Bergen in the evening.

Day 2 – See a More Local Side of Bergen

After seeing Bergen’s main attractions on your first day, spend your second day exploring some of the neighborhoods and streets that are easier to miss.

9:30 AM – Breakfast & a Morning Walk in Sandviken

Start your second day a little slower.

If you want breakfast before exploring, stop at Bakeri 29 in Sandviken. It’s a lovely way to start the morning and puts you right in the area you’re about to explore.

Then walk through Sandviken’s small streets, old wooden houses and quieter residential areas. Take your time and wander a little without following an exact route. This part of Bergen feels completely different from busy Bryggen, even though you’re not far from the city centre.

☕ Another Option

If Bakeri 29 doesn’t fit your route, you can start with breakfast at Godt Brød Fløyen instead and walk towards Sandviken afterwards.

💙 Local Tip

Don’t treat Sandviken like another attraction you need to “finish.” The nicest part is simply walking around, looking at the houses and discovering little streets along the way.

After your walk through Sandviken, head back toward the center for the afternoon.

1:30 PM – Explore Skostredet

Spend some time around Skostredet and the surrounding streets.

This little part of Bergen has a completely different atmosphere from Bryggen, with independent shops, restaurants, street art and some of the city’s more creative spots.

It’s small, so you don’t need hours here. Just walk around and see what you find.

3:30 PM – Nygårdsparken & Coffee at BKB

After Skostredet, head towards Nygårdsparken for a short, relaxed walk.

You don’t need to spend a long time here. Walk through the park, enjoy the greenery and then stop at BKB nearby for a coffee.

If the weather is nice, take your coffee with you and enjoy it around the park before continuing your afternoon.

It’s a simple stop, but that’s exactly the point. Not every part of your Bergen trip needs to be a major tourist attraction.

Evening – Try Traditional Norwegian Food

For your final evening, I’d recommend trying some traditional Norwegian food.

A few of my recommendations are:

Bryggeloftet – A classic option around Bryggen for Norwegian dishes and seafood.

Enhjørningen (Unicorn) – A lovely choice if you want seafood inside one of Bryggen’s historic wooden buildings.

Pingvinen – More casual and relaxed, and a good place to try Norwegian comfort food.

Schmidt – Another option I recommend if you want a traditional Norwegian meal

You don’t need to visit all of them. Choose whichever suits the kind of evening you want.

After Dinner – One Last Drink

If you’re not ready to go back to your hotel yet, have one last drink in the city.

Try Kulturhuset for a lively, casual atmosphere or Vågal for another nice evening option.

At this point, forget the schedule. Your sightseeing is finished.

Have a drink, walk around the centre and enjoy your last evening in Bergen.

💙 My Local Tip

Two days in Bergen gives you enough time to see the famous sights and experience some of the city beyond Bryggen and Fløyen.

Don’t fill every hour.

Leave room for a coffee, an unexpected little street, a longer walk than you planned, or simply sitting somewhere and watching Bergen go by.

Sometimes those are the parts of a trip you remember most.
