A cozy coffee-and-cake stop in Bergen. A little moment to slow down between exploring the city.

Vågal

For a cozy coffee-and-cake break, Vågal has just the kind of window seat I love — plants all around, a warm drink and a little time to watch Bergen go by.

Pizza in Bergen: My Local Take

Bergen has a few places to grab a pizza, but I wouldn’t say there’s one absolute standout. Here’s my personal, down-to-earth take on the options I’ve tried.

My Go-To Options

Café Spesial — One of the better pizza options I’ve tried in Bergen. Nothing overly fancy, but a solid choice.

Peppes Pizza — A good option when you’re in the mood for American-style pizza. I particularly like one of their speciality pizzas.

Olivia — I enjoyed the chicken pizza here.

Other Pizza Places I’ve Tried

Villa Paradiso — A popular city-centre spot, although personally I didn’t find it particularly special.

Boccone — Not bad, but it wouldn’t be my first choice for pizza.

Hoggorm — A familiar name in Bergen’s pizza scene; for me, the pizza was fairly ordinary.

De Napoli — Not bad, and worth keeping on the list as another option.

These are personal impressions, not a ranking. Menus and opening hours may change.

Burgers in Bergen: My Local List

Craving a burger in Bergen? Here are four places on my list. I’m keeping this as a simple selection rather than ranking them — the best choice depends on what you’re in the mood for.

Bark

Holy Cow

TGI Fridays

Hekkan Burger

Where to Eat in Bergen: Norwegian & International Food

These are restaurants and food stops from my own Bergen recommendations. Choose based on what you feel like eating, rather than following a strict ranking.

Norwegian Food & Seafood

For a taste of Norwegian cooking, these are places from my Bergen list.

Pingvinen — Traditional Norwegian food in a relaxed setting.

Enhjørningen — A seafood restaurant in historic Bryggen.

Bryggen Tracteursted — For Norwegian-inspired food around Bryggen.

Søstrene Hagelin — A casual stop for fish dishes.

Fjellskål — Seafood by the Fish Market.

Cornelius Seafood Restaurant — A seafood dining experience outside the city centre.

International Restaurants in Bergen

A few different styles of food to consider when you want something other than traditional Norwegian dishes.

Allmuen — For a nicer dinner in the city centre.

Pinocchio — For small plates to share.

Wok — For a filling, budget-friendly Chinese meal.

China Palace — Another Chinese food option in Bergen.

A steaming ceramic bowl of creamy Bergen fish soup placed on a rustic, light-wood table beside a large window overlooking blurred harborfront buildings in bright Nordic colors. The soup is rich and velvety, dotted with tender white fish chunks, orange carrot slices, and emerald dill leaves, with a crusty slice of sourdough resting on a slate-gray plate nearby. Golden hour sunlight streams through the window, catching tiny droplets of steam and creating soft highlights on the bowl’s glazed rim. Shot at eye level with a shallow depth of field, the background gently fades into a soft bokeh of colorful façades. The mood is cozy, indulgent, and playful, like a warm reward after a chilly fjord outing, captured in vivid photographic realism for a food-focused Bergen travel story.
